Mert joined the MGH Institute for Technology Assessment (ITA) as a postdoctoral research fellow in February 2023. He completed his PhD in Industrial Engineering from Bogazici University, Turkey, where he focused on operations research and mathematical modeling. During his PhD, Mert specialized in multi-objective combinatorial optimization, stochastic processes, and evolutionary algorithms. He has experience in model development for HEOR projects, such as validation and calibration to real-world evidence, compartmental and agent-based simulation modeling, discrete-event and micro-simulation, as well as cost-effectiveness and budget impact analysis.
Currently, Mert is working with Dr. Jagpreet Chhatwal at ITA on projects related to liver diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). He is applying his expertise in mathematical modeling and operations research to investigate and evaluate the cost-effectiveness and clinical outcomes of different interventions for liver diseases.
