Staff Profile

Jaber received his PhD and masters’ degrees from Virginia Tech’s Bradley department of electrical and computer engineering. He was a fellow of the following programs while earning his PhD: 1) disaster resilience and risk management; and 2) urban computing. His research focuses on community resilience, computational social science, critical infrastructures (such as energy and emergency services), and socio-technical systems through the use of natural language processing (NLP), social sensing tools (such as Twitter and Google), machine learning, and network science. In recent years, his work has been supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research, the National Science Foundation, COMPETE 2020, Khalife University, and the British Council.
