Alexander Göhler, MD, PhD, MSc, MPH

Alexander Göhler

Alex works with the Cardiovascular Research Program. Dr.Göhler is also affiliated with the University of Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology (UMIT) in Hall/Innsbruck, Austria. He is a graduate of the Charité Humboldt University Medical School in Berlin, Germany and he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Charité Medical Center in Berlin, during which time he also earned an MSc in Epidemiology from the Technical University in Berlin.

Before Dr. Göhler joined the faculty at the ITA, he worked in the Institute as a Research Fellow supported by the German Cardiac Society for two years. During his fellowship he also earned a Master of Public Health degree in Quantitative Methods from Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Göhler is member of the “Health Economics” working group of the German Cardiac Society and he co-directs the “Economic Evaluation” project of the German Competence Network on Heart Failure. He teaches courses in advanced economic modeling for the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR).

Dr. Göhler's current research includes systematic reviews, epidemiologic analyses and decision-analytic modeling in cardiovascular disease. His particular interests are in the evaluation of the diagnostic value and the cost-effectiveness of procedures designed to detect vulnerable plaques as well as the long-term evaluation of screening, diagnostic and management strategies in congestive heart failure.
