Sumeyye Samur joined MGH-ITA as a research fellow in October 2015 and works with Dr. Jagpreet Chhatwal. She is also a post-doc research fellow at Harvard Medical School.
Her research focuses on the application of operations research and computer science methods to improve clinical decision-making. Her interests include decision analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis and health economics. She is currently working in the areas of hepatitis C virus screening and treatment, liver transplantation and fatty liver disease.
Dr. Samur received her BS degree in Computer Engineering from Fatih University, Turkey. She received her MS degree in Computer Engineering and PhD in Industrial Engineering from Marmara University, Turkey. During her PhD, she worked in the area of scheduling, combinatorial optimization, heuristics and meta-heuristics.
Dr. Samur was ranked in the top 1% out of 1.5 million test takers in the national university entrance exam in Turkey and received a scholarship (fully-funded) from Fatih University during her BS. She was in the organizing committee of a winter school called “Scheduling Camp”, which was a pioneer activity in its area in Turkey. She was awarded many scholarships and grants during her education including 2 grants from TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), and 2 grants from ITO (Istanbul Chamber of Commerce) which supported her international academic activities/research.
