Sassan joined the ITA in 2017 as a postdoctoral research fellow. He received a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Oregon State University where he worked on biomechanics of bacterial adhesion, slow mixing in spatially extended systems, and flow of Newtonian fluids in porous materials. Sassan is interested in coarse-graining as it pertains to model building for multiscale dynamical systems.

He is currently working with Dr. Hur and Dr. Kong on disease progression modeling for cancer screening and machine learning in healthcare.
